Textile Tech & Lean Thinking at BUTEX: From Fibre to Future

On May 14, 2025, the BUTEX Business Club hosted an illuminating Technical Workshop at Bangladesh University of Textile and Engineering on Textile Technology & Lean Thinking: A Blueprint for Growth—an engaging exploration of innovation, sustainability, and leadership in textile manufacturing. Co-organized with SheSTEM, the event brought together undergraduate and graduate students, aspiring textile engineers, and industry professionals eager to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice in Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving textile engineering sector.

Exploring Sustainable Innovation and Career Pathways in Technical Textiles

The morning session, led by Adil Hossain, Fabric Technical Manager at Next Sourcing BD, kicked off with a deep dive into Fabric Innovations & Sustainability. Participants examined cutting-edge development in eco-friendly fibre, biodegradable finishes, and circular-economy models that redefine “Fast Fashion” into “Future Fashion.” Transitioning to Career Opportunities in Technical Textile, the session outlined the diverse trajectories available—from nonwoven R&D and performance textiles for sportswear to protective fabrics for healthcare applications. He emphasized the Importance of Mastering Fundamentals and Gaining Technical Expertise, encouraging participants to build strong foundations in polymer chemistry, fibre mechanics, and process kinetics before chasing high-profile roles.

Building Modern Leadership Skills and Driving Growth Through Practical Frameworks

In the second half of the Technical Workshop, Engr. Anisul Hoque Ansari, Director at RNT (BD) Ltd, delivered an energetic, interactive talk on modern leadership. He identified five essential leadership skills—communication, adaptability, emotional intelligence, initiative, and collaboration—and led participants through activities designed to hone each one.  The session introduced the “Outlook, Chair, and Time” framework to help students align their mindset, responsibilities, and daily priorities with their long-term vision and values. It also guided the group through key lean growth tools, explaining how the PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) cycle drives continuous improvement, how Kaizen encourages incremental change, and how the SBI (Situation–Behavior–Impact) model facilitates constructive feedback.

What set this Technical Workshop apart was its emphasis on active learning. Rather than passive lecture, every concept was reinforced through examples of problem-solving challenges. The workshop concluded with a heartfelt thank-you to everyone whose curiosity, energy, and engagement made the day both informative and inspiring. For SheSTEM participants, the session offered more than just technical know-how and leadership framework: it provided a platform for networking, mentorship, and practical skill-building in a sector often dominated by legacy practices.
