Technical Workshop on Data Analytics at IUT: Future-proofing careers of STEM students

On March 19th, 2025, the IUT Career & Business Society (IUTCBS) hosted an exclusive technical workshop titled “A Career in Data Analytics” at the IUT premises, empowering STEM students with foundational insights into data-driven fields. Supported by SheSTEM, the event aimed to ignite curiosity and equip aspiring leaders with skills in Data Analysis, Data Science, and Machine Learning, while fostering a vision for innovation and leadership in technology.

The session was spearheaded by Maman Yusuf Khan, Analytics Engineer and Back-end Developer at Intelligent Machines, whose expertise in software engineering and real-world case studies enriched the workshop. The session began by demystifying the transformation of data into actionable information, breaking down buzzwords like Big Data and AI, and explaining the four types of data analytics (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive). Attendees gained clarity on how these concepts shape industries, illustrated through local AI examples such as biponon.ai, nimontron.ai,  fordo.ai, and dharapat.ai.

Beyond theory, the workshop emphasized career readiness. A dedicated segment mapped out career pathways for roles like Data Analyst, Data Scientist, and Machine Learning (ML) Engineer, addressing FAQs on the demand and supply of the industry and growth strategies. Students engaged in discussions about integrating technical expertise, preparing them to solve real-world challenges through data-driven innovation.

The event concluded with a presentation by Ridwanur Rahman, Senior Business Consultant, LightCastle Partner,  who introduced SheSTEM’s mission to bridge gender gaps in STEM through mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities. This highlighted the workshop’s alignment with broader goals of ensuring gender-inclusive workplaces and institutions with future-ready leaders who can drive societal and technological progress.

By blending technical education, engaging case studies, and career guidance, the workshop not only deepened students’ understanding of data analytics but also inspired them to envision their roles as pioneers in Bangladesh’s evolving tech landscape. The collaboration between IUTCBS and SheSTEM underscored the power of industry-academia partnerships in shaping tomorrow’s STEM leaders.
